Missouri Considering Ammunition Serialization Bill.
Update: From NRA-ILA, the Maryland serialization bill (HB517) was withdrawn on 29-Feb-2008.
The NRA-ILA has put forth an alert that “On Monday, March 3, the Missouri Senate Judiciary Committee will likely consider Senate Bill 1200″.
For those that have not followed this story, here is the short summary:
- Bullet serialization is defined as unique identifier stamped onto the BASE of every bullet (thats the projectile part, not the casing).
- Beginning 01-March-2009, ALL ammunition sold in Missouri must be serialized
- Beginning 01-January-2011 (this is the good one), it will be a crime to possess any unserialized ammunition.
- There is a $.005 tax/bullet to fund the state “serialized ammunition database”.
The ramifications of this bill, if it passes, are obvious. You will have to throw away all your current ammunition. Ammunition costs in MO will be prohibitive. And, much like the fine CA microstamping bill, it is unlikely to have any effect on crime. This is an anti-gun bill..
If you are in MO, consider acting early on this one… Remember, nobody thought microstamping would pass in CA!
