Heller vs DC…
The Onion perhaps said it best…
Random observations from the ADE community
Following up on their wildly unsuccessful attempts to regulate rifles, Canada is now seeing strong pushes to outlaw knives.
Im sure it will be just as successful as it is in the UK….
Just an FYI… if you look at this PDF of the change.gov website from Nov 7th, there is a very clear statement that the incoming administration is looking to make the expired assault weapon ban permanent…
Interestingly, change.gov, under agenda, no longer has specific details. Perhaps revisiting?
Anyway, if you live outside of CA, I suggest you start stockpiling your >10 rd magazines in addition to your various AR accessories.
If you live in CA (and out), I recommend you pick up any rifles you want now… “assault rifle” is a funny term… last time it referred to AR type rifles. Next time it will probably include any center-fire semi-auto rifle. Remember this quote from the 2007 failed HR 1022?
(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enfocement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.
Bearing in mind that NOBODY in ADE is willing to give you REAL legal advice and you should consult with a real lawyer that will put their ass on the line for you if you want said real legal advice…
Here is a question that we get a lot… suppose you are not a US citizen, but, you want to buy a gun. Federally, you need to be a immigrant alien (i.e., non-tourist) or you need to have a waiver. The easiest waiver to get is a hunting license. But, if you are working here (like h1b or pre green card), this is not required, but you will need to be a resident in your state of purchase for 90 days before purchase. (reference)
Now… California-wise, you will need to be a resident (duh). You will need to prove this with a utility bill/car registration etc (NOT cell phone bill) AND you will need proof that you are in the US legally (I-94 number or Alien Registration Number) (reference).
When in doubt, in CA, you can always do an eligibility check before you purchase to see if the DOJ would bounce your application by filling out a Personal Firearms Eligibility Check form and sending it in.
Here is a nice story about a UCSD group that demonstrating duplicating keys based on a photo of the key. This has been done in the past — what is interesting here is that they did things like duplicate keys at odd angles based on a photo taken from a rooftop of a keyring on a table in a coffee house over 200 feet away.
