AB962 will:
- remove mail order ammunition sales
- add cost to sales because vendors will be required to record personal information and fingerprint every purchaser and keep records for inspection
- force vendors to redesign stores to keep ammunition in locked cabinets or out of public consumer areas.
This will not reduce crime (obviously). This will create unnecessary burdens on ammunition vendors and firearm range owners. This is a waste of money and effort and only serves as a form of harassment against law abiding citizens. As CK mentioned, this now moves to the Governer’s desk for a signature or veto. If he does not act in 30 d, this will automatically become law. In the past, he has always signed or vetoed such legislation after waiting until the last minute to hear comment from the community — usually signed ( .50 cal ban, microstamping).
Please contact the Governor now…

Gotta love gun buyback programs. They cost us money, make gun control people feel good about themselves and, unsurprisingly, dont seem to affect crime.
Story at the BradentonHerald.
“Though the sight of dozens of soon-to-be-destroyed guns might be comforting, multiple studies have shown that buyback programs probably don’t reduce gun violence.”
And my favorite quote:
““It’s highly unlikely that a person who would use guns for violence would turn them in,” said Gary Kleck, a Florida State University criminology professor who studies gun control.”
Really? Who would have thunk?

Probably many of you heard this story over the weekend. Short summary: a wheelchair man was sexually assaulted in the bathroom of a supermarket. WTF. Anyway, there was a nice perspective on this from the Examiner (via TheWaronGuns blog) written by a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair…
“The rape of a handicapped man is, of course, just one example of the strong preying on the weak: an adult abusing a child, a large, strong man assaulting a smaller, generally physically weaker woman, and a gang attacking an individual are a few others. I chose to write about this today because of the incident’s personal relevance to my situation.“

The ammo ban bill passed both houses of the legislature on Friday night and is currently waiting on the governors desk for him to act on it. He has 30 days to sign or veto the bill otherwise it automatically becomes law.
Call the governors office an tell them you oppose this bill and want the governor to veto it!

As much as we like to bash the Socialist enclave on San Francisco for their policies their we can’t give up the fight to retain our rights on any front. We have not yet talked about the Cow Palace Gun Show Ban bill that is currently headed to the Governors desk. Like many other anti-gun bills this is the first step in a premeditated incremental ban on gun shows on public land.
In California the Governor must actively veto a bill sent to his desk in 30 days for it not to become law.
Please call and fax the Governor and tell him to veto this bill!

The handgun ammunition ban bill AB962 is steadily marching its way through the legislature. After passing the Assembly earlier this year it was passed on to the Senate were it was heavily amended. Yesterday night AB962 passed a full Senate vote. Since the bill was heavily amended in the Senate it must go back to the Assembly for another vote. The assembly has until midnight tonight to pass the bill. Call your assembly member and tell them to vote “NO”.
Use the link on the right to find your assembly member. Feel free to call other assembly members offices. Just make sure to tell them you are from a city that is in their district.

The authors of AB962 have been hard at work amending the bill to remove obvious objections in hopes that it will pass a full senate vote. The bill is still a worthless piece of legislation that will fail to achieve its goals since those it seeks to prevent from purchasing ammunition do not obey the law anyway.
Here’s a summary of the amended changes to the bill. Thanks to obeygiant on CalGuns for the summary.
Looks like the major changes were:
- Enforcement was changed from July 1, 2010 February 1,2011
- Removed the language dealing with what information they can keep and how it can be used
- Changed the name of it from “PROTECTION Act of 2009: Providing Regulation and Oversight to End Community Terrorism in Our Neighborhoods.” to the “Anti-Gang Neighborhood Protection Act of 2009.”
- Removed 12061(b) the list of exemptions to this bill
- Removed 12061 (B),(C) pertaining to employees of Ammunition Vendors
- Removed 12061 (e) stating that the funds collected from licensing would be deposited in the Dealers’ Record of Sale Special Account of the General Fund.
- Removed 12062 the section describing how they would issue licenses to whom and what is required of them pertaining to denied licenses
