On Tuesday, a Florida CCW holder shot and killed armed Burger King robber. Apparently the masked robber entered the Burger King and asked for a King’s ransom. An armed patron with a CCW license confronted then shot and killed the robber while taking several shots himself. The CCW licensee is in stable condition at a Florida hospitol. I applaud the CCW holder for doing what was necessary to protect everyone in the restaraunt. There was no video of the incident so they are relying on witnesses to detail what happened. It would have been nice to see what actually happened so we could learn from it.
This is a very favorable article and video of the CCW holder.
Miami Police say a Good Samaritan confronted a would-be robber and killed him before he was able to rob a Burger King Restaurant on Biscayne Boulevard Tuesday afternoon.
Police and fire rescue responded to a double shooting call at the restaurant located at 54th Street and Biscayne Blvd., and when they got there they found a man injured, transporting him to Jackson Memorial Hospital. That man was the Good Samaritan who they say confronted the ski mask wearing suspect with a gun of his own. Gun shots were exchanged between the two as a result …
In an obviously anti-gun political move the Obama administration seems to be seeking an end to the Federal Firearm Programs that trains pilots who wish to carry firearms on planes.
“Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.
The Obama administration this past week diverted some $2 million from the pilot training program to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots”
I would personally feel safer with armed pilots who are ready to defend the aircraft from hijackers than some field supervisors harassing pilots on the ground.
A would be armed robber was shot and killed by a security guard as he attempted to rob The Vitamin Shoppe in New Smyrna Florida on February 7, 2007. The masked pistol wielding robber entered the pharmacy, threw a bag over the counter and demanded it be filled with drugs. As the robber threatened the pharmacists and security guard with his pistol and frantically paced in front of the counter the security guard behind the counter discretely unholstered his weapon and calmly waited for the right time to strike. The robber soon was momentarily distracted as he reached for a box of drugs that he had demanded. The security guard quickly came around the counter and shot the robber twice in the chest. The robber had less than a second to respond and was shot dead without returning fire. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29069767/
Well if this bill actually goes anywhere that is the idea.On February 19, 2009 Bill AB 357 (Yes, they actually try to reserve bill numbers like this on purpose) was introduced by Assembly Member Steve Knight of Palmdale, my new politician hero in California. This bill deletes a mere 8 words and adds 1 from section 12050 of the Penal Code and would effectively turn California from a discretionary “may issue” state into a “shall issue” state.
If you support this legislation you are urged to write or fax letters to Steve Knight’s office by March 20th stating your support. While you are at it, send a letter to your districts representative urging them to support this bill. Every letter they receive will add to Steve’s justification for carrying this bill forward in the California legislature.

Recently, I was engaged in a conversation with some friends over the use of off duty law enforcement officers as private security. I found it a bit offensive. It seems to me that there is a general conflict of interest here….
If you are on duty, and 2 calls come in, one of which is from a fellow officer and one of which is not — which one are you going to respond to first?
If you are law enforcement, won’t you give preferential protection to your 2nd place of business when you are on duty?
In addition to that, WaronGuns made a really good point — if you live in an area were CCW permits are hard to obtain, doesn’t this give an unfair competitive advantage to off duty cops in the businesses of executive protection, etc? Seriously, that alone seems reason enough to have a ban on LEO’s performing off duty security work. The government is not supposed to set up circumstances where it creates such detriments to private sector businesses.
John Stossel, co-anchor of ABC’s 20/20 has a written an elegant piece on the incongruity of thinking that laws creating “gun free zones” also create crime and violence free zones.
“Last I checked, murder is against the law everywhere. No one intent on murder will be stopped by the prospect of committing a lesser crime like illegal possession of a firearm.”
“If you are the target of a crime, only one other person besides the criminal is sure to be on the scene: you. There is no good substitute for self-responsibility. ”
“But this idea that gun control is crime control is just a myth. The National Academy of Sciences reviewed dozens of studies and could not find a single gun regulation that clearly led to reduced violent crime or murder. When Washington, D.C., passed its tough handgun ban years ago, gun violence rose. “
