Update on cops that like to Facebook that they will kill people that open carry…

We talked about this guy earlier…  Rod Tuason threatened to kill people that expressed their 2nd Amendment rights by open carrying in a comment he made on Facebook.

Remarkably(ha!), there has been a very strong backlash in the Facebook community…. Fox has a nice story on that here.

Below is a screen capture of his comments from Kevin Thomason’s blog.

How Criminals Get Guns — They get them from Homeland Security!

Per CNN (thanks Slashdot), DHS has lost something like 243 guns.  75% of them because the officers did not secure the weapon — you know, front seat of an unlocked car, etc.

“Im sure it will be fine — Ill only be in 7-11 for a moment….”

Kahr PM9 Failure

Thanks to TheFirearmBlog for this story.

Since it seems like a few people have been looking at the PM9, this story would be of interest.

Short summary: during range visit, a PM9 “blew up” in the shooter’s hands while using factory ammo…  Notice the failed extractor and side panel.

As you read the rest of the story it turns out the shooter may have been using reloads, the seemingly main cause for all the Glock KaBOOMS! that have led to Glocks being called grenades.

To be honest though, it looks like the damage is a little different.

Here is a photo of an exploded glock-nade:

This explodes near where the round is chambered due to an unsupported casing.  This problem seemed to be most reported with the .40’s.

So the PM9 looks to be a different mechanism to me.  Probably too much energy in the recoil that made the slide come back with excessive force — yay for double charged reloads :-p.  Kahr was apparently excellent with the service.

CCW Concealed .32 one-shot stop?

“…and if it weren’t for the Blackberry my pappy that I always kept in my breast pocket, that bullet would have killed me!”

Thanks to TheFirearmBlog for the link to this story… basically some dumb ass managed to get his clothing caught up in his .32 pistol and discharged it through his coat and at his girlfriend.

When the round struck his GF, the Blackberry stopped the bullet with only minor bruising as a result.  I wish they mentioned which firearm the gentleman had…

I found this video over at WDTN.

The tale of two coffee shops

As many of you know it is generally illegal in California to open carry or concealed carry a firearm in public.  There are small exceptions but the law is too convoluted to get into here except for the topic of this post which is Unloaded Open Carry (UOC).  UOC is legal provided your firearm is not concealed, not loaded, and you are not in a prohibited area (“school zone”, post office, government building).  Check out CaliforniaOpenCarry.org for more information.

That brings us to the current story.  Members of the Bay Area Open Carry and other groups around California have been demonstrating for firearm and carry rights by carrying UOC in public places or simply UOC while going about their daily routine.  It started out as a small movement with individuals doing it on their own and reporting their experiences and interactions with the police in the instances where they were called.  From these humble beginnings the movement has expanded to groups of UOC meeting in coffee shops and restaurants such as California Pizza Kitchen, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and Starbucks.

The Brady Campaign and LCAV have taken exception to these tactics and pressed these companies to ban UOC in their establishments for safety reasons.  This is certainly the companies right since it is private property.  Unfortunately CPK and Coffee Bean have given into unfounded requests and banned UOC in their stores and restaurants.

Starbucks did not give into the request.  In fact they simply stated:

“Starbucks does not have a corporate policy regarding customers and weapons; we defer to federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding this issue”

Way to go Starbucks!  I for one will only be buying my espresso coffee drinks from Starbucks from now on and will do without the overpriced fancy pizza at CPK.

BTW, to whomever made that Starbucks logo with the guns … Great job!  It looks awesome!  Three of my favorite things! Gun, Girls and Coffee!

Know your rights! 10 Rules Premiere Friday (the 12th)

If you are sitting by your computer 9am this Friday and have free time, you probably should check out the Cato Institute’s premiere of “10 Rules for Dealing with the Police” produced by FlexYourRights.org.  FlexYour Rights is a great group doing good to help Americans understand their 4th amendment rights.  Remember, this is NOT about whether you have something to hide or not…  This is about preserving the freedoms our cultural ancestors died to secure for us.
