I am beginning to find that there are a lot of women that enjoy the target/precision/concentration aspects of rifle shooting, however, because they are not into the shock trauma of high caliber weapons they are relegated to the limitations of a 22 rifle.
Now, this is not strictly true… It turns out that AR type rifles are remarkably well designed and have very very low recoil considering the power they impart. Unfortunately, because of the media and general perception, the standard AR looks just a little too dark and evil. Especially compared to a nice Ruger 10/22.
So, what is the solution….? Well, if you have patience and like arts and crafts, this gentleman rolled his own Hello Kitty AR system:

Of course, if you dont have the patience or skill to roll your own, or, for that matter, if you dont want to permanently make a dainty rifle, The fine folk at Cavalry Arms have made a limited edition set of pink furniture for your AR system.

A, very reasonable, $140 gets you an M4 style butt stock, hand guard and pistol grip. When you need to make your rifle evil again, they can easily be swapped back to their sinister counterparts.
I really think I want this. If I had this, I would use it every day.
I may or may not put a holo-sight on it… At $280.00 a pop, I might just have to wait for my birthday…
Surefire makes some of the best flashlights on the market and every ADE instructor carries a surefire flashlight due to their reliability and effectiveness.
Now they are trying their hand at iPhone applications. You would think Surefire would come up with a branded flashlight app, but oddly enough they have put together a shot timer app. While a departure from their normal product this is one of the few shooting related applications available for the iPhone.
So how well does it work?
Downloading and installing the shot timer on my iPhone was as easy as installing any other application. Once installed I gave the features a quick look. The shot timer uses the microphone on the iPhone to pick up the sound of each shot being fired and the speaker to make the audible start and par sound. The features are identical to the Pocket Pro shot timers that we are use to: sensitivity, par time, start tone (instant, fixed, adjustable random) and shot time review.
PROS
The Surfire shot timer is simple to use and adjusting all of the settings is simple using the intuitive iPhone interface. Shot time review on the Pocket Pro requires finding and pressing a button to scroll through times one at a time. The Surfire timer displays entire shot strings on the screen with elapsed and split times for every shot.
CONS
The sensitivity of the shot timer is a little weak and requires it to be set to 100% to reliablaly record all shots in a string. The beep is also too quiet for large groups especially if they are using proper ear protection.
Overall the Surefire shot timer is a decent application for the iPhone. If start and par time beep were louder to be functional for groups it would be great. Since the application is free, for now, I would recommend downloading it and giving it a try.

It looks like rumors of filing for chapter 11 were rightly founded, but a group stepped in at the last minute to save it.
T u r n e r ’ s Outdoorsman, a 13-store chain of retail stores in Southern California specializing in firearms, hunting, and fishing gear, was purchased Monday (June 8, 2009) by four investors …
Turner’s Outdoorsman languished under the new management and was rumored to be flirting with bankruptcy. But Lumsden said all that is changing as of this week.
“Finally there are people back in charge who know and love this business,” said Lumsden, who ran Turner’s from 2001 to 2004, some of the company’s most profitable years. Lumsden, a California native who was inducted into the California Trapshooting Hall of Fame in 2005, said the new controlling owners, are all avid outdoorsmen. “And many of the people who were here at Turner’s during its successful past will be here for its future, making this company very viable and helping it move forward.”
I am pleased that California is not going to lose another firearm retailer.
Yet another entry into the category of “if it is fun it is probably illegal in California” … Enter the HERA ARMS Glock Conversion kit.

This unique shaft system is for Glock pistol models 17, 19, 22, 23, 31, 32: A simple assembly through utilization of the available front Picatinny rail as well as the included front rail locking bolt. Included is an ambidextrous charging handle which gives the possibility of assembly to both right and left handed firers. The G.C.C. has a super ergonomic design and allows the possibility to mount a front fore-grip, lamps, lasers and iron sights to the additional Picatinny rails. All models come with a cheek rest that is made of a high quality neoprene rubber for extra comfort.
The is not the first entry into the Glock Carbine conversion territory. For a long time Mech-Tech has had a carbine conversion kit for the Glock. Yes, the Mech-Tech kit is illegal in California too. The Mech-Tech kit is fairly well reviewed, but it seems its grease gun like aesthetics keeps it from winning much favor among those outside of California who can purchase real pistol caliber carbines. Perhaps the HERA ARMS conversion kit will change that once it’s released.

Shaped like an ammunition clip for the AK47 rifle, this is an ice cube tray that churns out a dozen ‘cubes’ shaped like AK47 bullets. Yes, nothing mixes better than guns and alcohol, may as well do so in style.
Available here. Stay cool my friends. Oh, and if you’re looking for a creative way to mount that squirrel you just took out, try this.
The TuffWriter (via BoingBoing):

Price? About $80-$90 (whatever you do for a living, clearly it is not the right choice — or is that “write” choice, ha ha).
On the plus side, it uses Fisher Space Pen cartridges, so, it should write pretty well.
On the minus side, the Pen of Death is only like $8. If you want aluminum, its all about the KZ Xtreme!!!!
You know its cool, because its XTREMEEMEMEEMEMMEMEME!!!!! And only like $50.

Not sure how useful they are, but, they are actually real. Probably best for solo rifle work as it looks like it is designed with what can only be described as a “hot brass funnel” type configuration.
