Random observations from the ADE community

There is a casting call for the second season of TOP SHOT. Applications are due August 12th, 2010.

By a vote of 5 to 4 the SCOTUS decided that the 2nd Amendment applies to the States by incorporation through the 14th Amendment.
“JUSTICE ALITO delivered the opinion of the Court … concluding that the Fourteenth Amendment incorporates the Second Amendment right, recognized in Heller, to keep and bear arms for the purpose of self-defense.”

We are patiently waiting to see the decision from the McDonald vs. Chicago SCOTUS case. It is generally believed that the decision will be in favor of gun rights advocates and strike down the law, the level of scrutiny that they decide can be applied to gun laws is the greater concern. In the next week we should have our decision … stay tuned.

Today, Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law a bill that allows state residents to carry concealed without needing a concealed carry permit. Arizona joins the ranks of Alaska and Vermont which allow its citizens to carry concealed without needing a permit. Good for them. Better to have a CCW and not need it than not have a CCW and need it.
Ace Electronics Enterprise, or AEE (no, this is not a subsidiary of ADE), maker of miniature digital video equipment, has designs for a cool little digital video camera that you can attach to firearms. The High Resolution DV Used for Guns PD91. Catchy name, huh? I bet the Chinese name sounds better.
This little digital video camera is designed to attach to your favorite Picatinny rail equipped firearm and records a gun barrel perspective of your exploits, or incompetence. It records video with a resolution of 640 x 480 @30 fps. Based on AEE’s other products the camera should produce a nice clear image. I would be concerned about the ruggedness of the device. Nobody wants to buy an expensive device only to have it jarred to pieces by the shock of firearm recoil. Hopefully the designers take in to account the beating Picatinny rail attached equipment need to take. Rugged tactical lights fail when attached to pistols, so you can only imagine what would happen to a fragile little CCD sensor.
Overall it looks like a cool little attachment for someone who participates in a lot of tactical shooting classes or competitions and in that respect it could also prove to be a great training aid if it is designed to take punishment.
There is currently no pricing or availability information, and the image even looks like a computer generated CAD design, so we’ll have to wait and see if it ever appears on a gun store shelf.

For all you reloaders it appears the primer market is beginning to ease up again. Our 14 month famine has first eased in both large and small rifle primers. The pistol varieties are still hard to come by, but shipments appear to be coming in more often at retailers. Retailers have even started lowering their prices to pre-shortage levels! So go check out your local shop or online retailer and see what they have in stock. You may be surprised.
When reviewing our posts today I paused for a minute on our article about “naked body scanning”. Being pretty adept at Photoshop I tried the trick of inverting the image and came up with the same result … a hot naked woman with a gun in her butt. You’re thinking “Awesome! I need to get a job with the TSA!” or you’re now looking for the security line with the hot security screener and giving her a wink, a nod and air kisses as she examines your bits and pieces.
I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but … it’s not true. Yep. I just doesn’t work that way. Lets take a look …
Being a little skeptical I tried the effect on another bodyscan image.

Top: A bodyscan image off the internet with inverted image on right.
Bottom: Purported naked bodyscan hot chick with inverted image on right.
Awesome naked chick, but nothing overexposed there except for some pixels in the guys image. What gives?!
Now check out the posture of the woman. In the color image the woman has her legs spread and arms to the side. The naked body scan has her arms outstreatched and heels together. I can give that up to the necessity of having to take an image outside of the scanner, but here’s the really kicker. Look at the belt and butt gun of the woman and man.
They are identical.
Someone obviously “Photochopped” the gun and belt from the guys image onto some naked woman’s image and posted it on the internet as a real body scan. Awesome! Enjoy the pron you sick bastards.
So for all you disappointed formerly eager TSA applicants and horny air travelers out there I just have to say that you can still wink, nod and blow kisses to your hot screener, but it will only get you a lengthy interview instead of a …
